AJR39,1,2 1To amend section 1 of article III of the constitution; relating to: age of qualified
2electors for state and local elections (first consideration).
Explanation of Proposal
This proposed constitutional amendment, proposed to the 2009 legislature on
first consideration, changes the age requirement for a qualified elector from 18 to 17.
A proposed constitutional amendment requires adoption by two successive
legislatures, and ratification by the people, before it can become effective.
AJR39,1,3 3Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That:
AJR39, s. 1 4Section 1. Section 1 of article III of the constitution is amended to read:
AJR39,1,65 [Article III] Section 1. Every United States citizen age 18 17 or older who is a
6resident of an election district in this state is a qualified elector of that district.
AJR39,1,9 7Be it further resolved, That this proposed amendment be referred to the
8legislature to be chosen at the next general election and that it be published for 3
9months previous to the time of holding such election.
